Summer Reading List
Congratulations and welcome to fifth grade. I hope you have a wonderful summer and enjoy reading two books during July and August. Your required summer reading book is Hoot by Carl Hiaasen. Each fifth grader must read this book and complete the attached information sheet. A test will be given during the first few weeks of school on characters, setting, climax, etc. We will have a thorough review of this book in class before the test.

After reading your second book, you are to design your own book cover. Remember that this book cover is your own creation which shows something from the book. Please place the cover on computer or construction paper. Attach a one or two page summary to your book cover. This should sequence the main details of the book that you selected to read. You must bring the book cover and summary with you on the first day of fifth grade, because it will be collected, graded, and displayed.

I hope you have an awesome summer! Please have fun with this assignment and use creativity with your cover.
